  1. One thing's for sure. I think we all live with our characters while a book's in progress. They're realer than the "real" world.

  2. Well done. Sheila, great questions that allowed Janet to go deep into her creative process. And Janet, insightful responses. This was a terrific blog. Congratulations to both of you.

  3. Hi Sheila and Janet.
I did enjoy reading this. You asked some great questions Sheila, and Janet answer with great skill.
You didn't mention the tortured heroes Janet, they are my favourite. I always enjoy writing a villian, the blacker the better.

    Cheers

  4. Fascinating blog, especially the part about using astrology. Of course, that requires that you know your characters' birthdays. I don't think I have any idea of mine.

My characters seem to come with the story. That is, my starting premise usually includes some concept of who the main characters are and what they want. I do find that I get to know them far better as the story proceeds, though.

  5. Thank you for visiting and commenting everyone. Talking to Janet about her characters was great fun and I hope to expand the questions on the casting couch over the next weeks and months
