The garden by Janet Lane Walters #BWLAuthor #MFRWAuthor #Garden #Peonies #Roses

Before I talk about my garden this is the new cover for the double book Leo - Aquarius and Virgo- Pisces. The new covers are great.

Now the garden. I have roses and peonies and a dogwood tree that are now all in bloom. The dogwood tree grew much taller than was predicted when I planted the tree. The soil must have been really rich. I was told the tree might grow to ten feet tall. It is now  between thirty and fourty feet tall. Today the green is turning white with the blooms and this is a grand sight.

As usual, the peonies went from small buds to full flowers and as happens every eyar, they bloomed and it rained. Not sure why but that happens nearly every year.

The roses went from tight buds to full flower. They are in full bloom but they will remain that way for all summer. Actually two of the bushes continue to bloom through the fall and occasionally into winter depending on how cold the weather becomes and how early or late.

I have a large front porch and sitting out when it's warm is one of my favorite things. I've written parts of many of my books while sitting on the white wicker swing.

Research on the Porch by Eileen O'Finlan

We've finally entered my favorite season. I wait all year for summer, so when it finally arrives I do all I can to soak it up. It just doesn't last long enough in New England. However, writing, for me anyway, tends to be an indoor pursuit. If I'm working on a novel, I'm at my laptop indoors. If I'm doing research for a future novel I'm usually in my home library, on the internet, or at a pertinent historial site - mostly indoors. This is not condusive to enjoying summer weather. Yet I can hardly take the summer off from researching and writing especially given that I work a full-time job - also indoors. And, frankly, I wouldn't want to.

I think I have hit upon a solution. Recently, on an absolutely gorgeous weekend day, I took the book I'm currently using for research for my next Irish novel out onto my front porch along with my notepaper. I have a little bistro set out there with just enough room to set up what I needed. It was perfect.

The next book in this series, which will follow Kelegeen and Erin's Children, will be set in Worcester, Massachusetts. Since it takes place during the 1860s the American Civil War will figure prominently in the story which means a lot of in-depth research for me. Fortunately, I love this part of writing historical fiction.

Although I am in love with my new home library, I think the porch will be hosting me and my research books a lot this summer. After all, it's hard to resist this view...

...especially when it's combined with the company of my favorite muse:

The Front Porch Is Decorated by Janet Lane Walters #BWLAuthor #MFRWAuthor #Granddaughter #decorating #Halloween

My one book with a Halloween scene.  Written for my black adopted daughter andfour of my grandchildren. Wonder when my eldest grannddaughter will undecorate so we can be ready for Christmas.

The last week in September arrived. My granddaughter came downstairs. "The porches in the neighborhood are boring." Not that on our block the ten houses all have porches. Five do and five do not. I just shrugged. "Do you mind if I decorate a bit? she asked. "Go ahead." I thought of something for fall. Well Halloween is fall but what my porch has become since the end of September is quite stunning, I guess. If I can get the pictures to hit this post, you will see what she has done. Halloween is still weeks away. Her furious decorating spree was completed before September ended.

Notice the rose garden still in bloom.

An over view of the entire porch.

The cemetery in the rose garden

Even the front door didn't escape

Creatures taking up space on the furniture,

All the witches brooms. Notice there are two one for her and one for me.

Now the month is half over, she's already planning the Christmas display. I figure before November ends, there will be Christmas on my porch, A big thanks to Ashley for providing me with these many pictures.

If you want to locate me in cyberspace or take a gander at my books, the following will help.
